The Martyrs Remake Trailer Is Here!

Even after taking a beating at the box office this past October with Paranormal Activity and Jem and the Holograms ( Yeah the company that releases low-budget Ethan Hawke horror flicks, also put out the Jem movie. Weird, I know), Blumhouse might be down, but not out. Their next release in the genre world (probably learned that rebooting crappy 80’s cartoons isn’t a money-maker…) is the remake of Pascal Laugier’s 2008 horror flick Martrys. Michael and Kevin Goetz jumped in the directors seat (or seats) for this remake and I know these fellas are up against it here. Although the original is not even a decade old, it has a loyal fan base in the genre world. People either love or hate it and those that love it, really fucking love it. Nothing more cynical and closed off than a horror fan watching a remake. I really dug the 2008 flick and the Goetz’ last flick Scenic Route was a trippy flick, but no where close to as brutal and graphic as Martyrs. Interested to see if they can top it. Martyrs hits limited release Jan 22nd and then VOD/DVD release on Feb 2nd. Check out the trailer below and let us know if you think the remake can live up to the original in the comments.

PLOT: Ten-year-old Lucie flees from the isolated warehouse where she has been held prisoner. Deeply traumatized, she is plagued by awful night terrors at the orphanage that takes her in. Her only comfort comes from Anna, a girl her own age. Nearly a decade later and still haunted by demons, Lucie finally tracks down the family that tortured her. As she and Anna move closer to the agonizing truth, they find themselves trapped in a nightmare – if they cannot escape, a martyr’s fate awaits them…
