The first trailer for the upcoming Kick-Ass sequel has arrived, and it is just about everything you’d expect to see from a sequel to 2010’s most action-packed comic book movie. In the new trailer, we get to see a lot of scenes that will look familiar to fans of the comic book, like the cemetary scene and Hit-Girl coming to Kick-Ass’ rescue in a fast-paced action sequence outside of a moving cargo van.
Fans will also notice some of the characters in the background that don’t have speaking roles in the trailer, but will play pretty crucial parts in the actual movie, like Mother Russia (played by Olga Kurkulina) and Doctor Gravity (Donald Faison). But the real highlight of the trailer is none other than Jim Carrey, who plays a new character named Colonel Stars and Stripes who is a founding member of Kick-Ass’ new team of heroes called Justice Forever, as well as a born-again ex-mobster.
Returning from the first movie will be the titular character played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Chloe Grace Moretz will be returning as the foul mouthed tween known as Hit-Girl/ Mindy Macready, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse will come back as Chris D’Amico/ Red Mist and don the new alias of The Mother Fucker. Kick-Ass 2 is expected to hit theaters on August 16, 2013.
