If you have not started to read this new series by Titan Comics and you love the story of Hiccup and his friends, pick yourself out a copy of this hidden gem. The stories follow Hiccup, Astrid and their friends and each episode is different from the other. I enjoyed the writing by Simon Furman as this adventure takes them out of the comfort of their little village to an ice castle and such is the title of Episode Three “The Ice Castle”. Simon is a very skilled writer and has been around since the eighties, with notable works with Transformers, Thundercats and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
As I read on, I enjoyed the continuing antics of the crazy cast of the well-known movies and could just imagine their voices in my head. In this episode, without giving anything away, the cast is forced to roam out into the frozen wilderness and uncover a dark secret. I was very impressed with Mr. Furman’s skills and how it took my imagination forward.
Of course, a good script needs an equally good artist and in this case they did not fall short by any means. They employed the wonderful skills of Jack Lawrence. Jack Lawrence (born 1975 in Canterbury, Kent) is a British comics creator. Jack has been around the block for a bit over a decade now and you may know his works from A.T.O.M #1-29 as the pencil artist, from 2005-2007 as well as Dr. Who Adventures in BBC Magazine. He does a superb job with all of the characters in Berk.
I look forward to reading more of these in the future and will continue to praise Simon and Jack of their collaboration as true artists. If you have children, get them a copy, I promise they will love it, just as I did.
Until next time, cheers.[avatar user=”JustBub” size=”medium” align=”left” link=”file” /]
