Every few days it seems like we’re getting more and more news on someone joining the cast of James Gunn’s upcoming Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy. Earlier this week, actress Glenn Close signed on as the head of the Nova Corps, which was earlier rumored to be going to John C. Reilly, who was going to be playing a role similar to Samuel L. Jackson’s in The Avengers. However, Deadline was the site to break the news about Glenn Close being added, and they also went on to say John C. Reilly was already part of the cast.

Just today, Karen Gillan, who is mostly known for her role as Amelia (Amy) Pond in Doctor Who, was added to the cast in an unspecified villain role. It seems like the Guardians are going to have their work cut out for them as this is the third villainous role to be cast in the film, following Lee Pace and Michael Rooker. Not much is known about who Gillan will be playing, but it’s been reported that she will be the “lead female villain” of the film.

Guardians of the Galaxy will be both written and directed by James Gunn, and will be released on August 1st, 2014. Gillan will join the cast that already consists of Chris Pratt (Peter Quill/ Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), John C. Reilly (rumored as Rhomann Dey), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), and Lee Pace.
