Director Zach Lipovsky Talks Leprechaun Reboot

With Reboots being the flavor du’ jour in the horror world it’s no surprise that this one wouldn’t be remade. And I can’t say that I’m disappointed.  Director Zach Lipovsky named WWE superstar Dylan “Hornswoggle” Post  as the new Leprechaun.  Which I guess is fitting since he plays a leprechaun type of wrestler in the ring.  Recent reports have stated that the title for the reboot will be Leprechaun: Origins.  The film is already in the can and is slated for a spring of 2014 release.  Lipovsky said “It’s basically a complete refresh, reboot,” he said.  “We’re not trying to copy or really do at all what the last one did. It kind of did what it was doing so well, that’s why they made so many of them, but we’re going a completely new direction and completely new world and everything which is why they were excited by what I brought to the table because I was pretty new to the whole Leprechaun thing myself. It was kind of what can we do to make something that’s a legitimate horror movie rather than something a bit more campy?”

And I couldn’t agree more. If they do it it has to be a total rebuild from the ground on up.  Like most slasher and horror films that go on and on they become a parody of themselves and loose what made them great in the first place. I cant wait to see this film and we will keep you up to date with any developing news.
