It certainly seems that producer Lauren Shuler-Donner got her way. She called it out months ago that she would love to have Channing Tatum play Remy LeBeau. Maybe she just watched Magic Mike one too many times. It doesn’t fit for me though. Channing Tatum is great don’t get me wrong I sometimes get lost in those eyes. There are two things that bother me: 1) I picture Gambit a bit slimmer, 2) I’m not sure about Channing sporting some long locks. This could be a Nic Cage/Ghost Rider hair piece all over again. We know Channing can be an action hero and also be the somewhat a straight guy in a comedy. This could be a big step for him into action films. I guess we will have to find out. I know somewhere there are comic book fans outraged. Probably in mom’s basement. Trend lightly moms. You don’t want to incur the wrath of your nerd-son after a horrible comic book casting session. Hopefully the nerd-sons take it to the internet and doesn’t insult mom’s meatloaf after reading this.
The movie doesn’t seem to have an outlet yet, meaning nothing is set in motion. All we know right now is the fact that Channing Tatum will be Gambit. That should be enough to get the ball rolling on something, right? I’m sure we will find out all too soon. Until then look at the bright side: Recently in an interview Hugh Jackman said he wanted Tatum to fill his shoes as Wolverine. So hey, we could have had a full-scale nerd war on our hands. Only time will tell on this franchise if it comes to pass.
