DAN’S PICKS OF THE WEEK

WEIRDWORLD TP VOL 00 WARZONES
MARVEL COMICS
(W) Jason Aaron (A/CA) Mike Del Mundo
Sure, Weirdworld was the best thing to come out of Secret Wars.
Why, mostly cuz it was fun. But it also had wild ideas, crazy throwback ideas from a bygone era of bronze age Marvel. A frantic tour de force of the patchwork realm floating over (or under) a patchwork world. The big event spin-off Weirdworld was the kind of thing that didn’t seem like it would work, but it did. Writer Jason Aaron channeled the finer points of Doug Moench’s expansive world building ethos to create a fever dream adventure combining tossed aside and forgotten ideas with just enough story to engage and entertain.
And it had eyeball bending art by Mike Del Mundo.

Cheech Wizard’s Big Book of Me brings Bodé’s essential transcendent art to the masses collecting all of the Cheech Wizard comics in a single volume.

IDW PUBLISHING
(W) Various (A) Bob Powell & Various (CA) Iger
“Love on the Racks: A History of American Romance Comics,” provides a fascinating introduction to “Weird Love: That’s The Way I Like It!”, the second sleazy and stupefying volume in the series that “Wired” magazine calls “deranged genius!”
