Troma releases crowdfunded slasher romp on their VOD platform Troma Now. BC Butcher has created some decent indie buzz. Directed by a 17 year old named Kansas Bowling and shot on 16mm. She used Indiegoggo to secure the funds. Also she worked her tail off at conventions to gather support. Hey, any 17 with that much drive is cool with me. For that sake, BC Butcher might be worth checking out…a lot of people started at Troma, maybe Kansas is the next James Gunn…who knows.

About Kansas Bowling-“The Troma Institute for Gifted Youth”:

“Kansas Bowling was only 17 years-old when she directed “B.C. Butcher”. She is a California native who gleans her film inspiration from her early exposure to Troma Films like, “Class of Nuke ‘Em High”, ” Nightbeast” and “Waitress” as well as 1960’s fashion and music, Barbara Bach, Raquel Welch and The Ramones. Her sartorial instincts and fresh, educated perspective lend informed wit, unique art-direction and hip styling to her work.

Bowling’s vision for “B.C. Butcher” was for a film shot on 16 mm film and the set was her father’s backyard in Topanga Canyon, California. The film, albeit expensive, was an artistic decision Kansas refused to compromise and was influenced by her interest in the aesthetic of the original version of, “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, which was shot on the same 16 mm daylight stock.

The low-budget movie was funded in part by an investment from Lloyd Kaufman, prexy of Troma Entertainment and creator of “The Toxic Avenger”, an indie go-go kickstarter and from her work bussing tables and as server in a Vietnamese restaurant in Culver City, California.” -via Troma

The Rundown:

After a group of contempuous cavewomen torture and kill one of their own over a romantic betrayal, a disfigured loner, known only as The Butcher (Dwayne Johnson (not The Rock)), discovers and falls deeply in love with the mutilated corpse. He proceeds on a bloody path of revenge, picking off the sexy murderers one by one.

The film is narrated by Kadeem Hardison (A Different World, Troma’s Def by Tempation) and features Kato Kaelin (BASEketball) alongside a host of up-and-coming actresses including: Leilani Fideler (Pretty Little Liars), Parker Love Bowling, Natasha Halevi, Devyn Leah, Molly Elizabeth Ring, and Miranda Robin. The film also boasts cameo appearances by Duck-Duck and Rodney Bingenheimer, California’s KROQ DJ, who lovingly refers to THE BC BUTCHER as the “prehistoric Manson girls.”

Featuring a rock & roll soundtrack from The Ugly Kids, THE BC BUTCHER is no doubt the definitive tongue-in-cheek horror film set in the paleolithic era. -via Troma
