During the Marvel Studios panel at Comic-Con, director Joss Whedon announced that the title for the Avengers sequel will be Avengers: Age of Ultron. This may be a big shock for some fans (myself included) considering it shares a title with Marvel Comics’ publication from earlier this year, and isn’t an adaptation of an earlier Avengers story arc.
Either way, this brings to mind a few possible scenarios we can see in future Marvel Studios movies. We could see Hank Pym (Ant-Man) become an Avenger to take down Ultron, considering he created Ultron in the comics. We could see the emergence of Vision, an android created by Ultron who eventually becomes an Avenger, as well as a love interest to the Scarlet Witch, who will also be her first appearance into the Marvel Studios universe in Avengers 2. Either way, the addition of Ultron into the Marvel movies will open the flood gates for many other characters and potential spin-offs.
The Avengers currently has the 3rd largest opening weekends, with a whopping $207.4 million in the U.S. box office. Avengers: Age of Ultron is set to hit theaters on May 1st, 2015, with Joss Whedon returning as director.
